From The Forge: Big Screens, Bigger Ideas, and a Full October Ahead

One week at Reforged can move from startup conversations to competitive Smash, Mario Party chaos, anime, D&D, and a parking lot full of cars. That range is not a lack of focus—it is exactly what Reforged was built to make possible.

Last Week at Reforged

Tech After Five returned on Tuesday, September 22. A registration error caused some tickets to display September 29, so we made sure those registrations would also be honored at Chucktown Startups 5x5 Live. They are different events, but both create space for Charleston’s technology professionals, founders, creators, and community builders to connect.

Thursday marked the debut of Reforged Rebooted, our new twice-monthly Super Smash Bros. Ultimate series. More than 21 players entered the first bracket, including two competitors who drove from Augusta, Georgia. The $100 pot bonus gave players something extra to fight for, but the turnout—and the distance people traveled—were the clearest signs that this series has room to grow.

Friday brought a different kind of competition with our Mario Party Jamboree Tournament:

  1. Sam Stewart: 7 Stars and 58 Coins

  2. Alex K.: 4 Stars and 79 Coins

  3. Steve Coleman: 2 Stars and 156 Coins

Saturday’s Madden tournament was canceled after low turnout for the second consecutive month. We are not interested in forcing an event that is not connecting. We will use that space to test different games, formats, and ideas that better match what our community wants.

Sunday was busy on two fronts. Brunchyroll and the Cozy Anime Club welcomed approximately 13 people for a Muppet Treasure Island script reading honoring Tim Curry.

Later, Sunday Sauce gave us an opportunity to test something we have wanted to explore: bringing Reforged gaming outside. We set up a large-format screen in the parking lot and offered a Super Smash Bros. sneak peek alongside the car show. This was not a full tournament yet. It was a trial run for the pop-up mini-tournaments and outdoor gaming experiences we can build into future community events—and the concept worked.

Around the Community

Tuesday night, Chucktown Startups 5x5 Live brought local founders back to Reforged to explain what they are building, answer questions, and receive direct feedback from the room.

That crossover is important to us. Reforged is more than a place containing computers and consoles. It is a nexus where gamers, founders, anime fans, tabletop groups, service-industry workers, and people simply looking for their community can share the same space.

Milestones and Behind the Scenes

We are officially opening the From The Forge Cover and Emblem Design Contest.

Artists are invited to build from the recognizable RGL wings and replace the central “R” with an original, forge-inspired emblem. The selected artist will receive 500 EMBERS, public credit, and an opportunity to help refine the design before it becomes part of future From The Forge materials.

Submissions must be original, human-created artwork. AI-generated entries will not be accepted.

This Friday, we will officially begin the Testing the Waters phase of our funding round with Vicinity Ventures. We’ll share the full story—and what this next step means for Reforged—in a dedicated post. If you'd like to more before then you'll need to find Chris at the lounge after 6pm either Wednesday or Thursday this week!

Coming Up

Tonight—Nerdy Trivia: Trivia begins at 7:00 p.m. and is free to play. First place earns 150 EMBERS, second earns 100, and third earns 50. Funny wrong answers may earn a Good Wheel or Bad Wheel spin, while being the only team to answer correctly earns a Good Wheel spin. Jackbox continues in the Flex Room after trivia until closing.

Thursday—Throwback Thursday: Game Passes are half price, food entrées are $2 off, and alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks are $1 off. Sides and refills are excluded. The Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber’s Young Professionals Social also runs from 5:30–7:00 p.m. Chamber membership is required for its member benefits, but everyone remains welcome to come game.

Friday—Community Game Night: The evening will also include the next session of our all-female D&D campaign.

Saturday—Mario Kart World Tournament: Racing begins at 5:00 p.m.

Sunday—Brunchyroll: Brunch and anime return during the day.

Monday—Suffer Well Monday: Everyone receives a half-price Monday Game Pass. Verified food-and-beverage workers also receive $2 off entrées and $1 off drinks, excluding sides and refills. Verification is intentionally practical—a workplace name tag, pay stub, or comparable proof works.

October continues with Nerdy Trivia on October 7, Smash Bros. Ultimate on October 8, a Fortnite No Build Tournament on October 10, and Brunch and Anime Trivia on October 11.

Pick the event that sounds like your kind of night, bring somebody with you, and join us at Reforged.

You provide the passion; we provide the place.
